Connect AI assistants to Checkvist

Checkvist hosts an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT can work with your lists: read and search them, add and update items, manage tags, due dates, assignees, and notes.

MCP access is a PRO feature. You can upgrade or start a free PRO trial on your profile page.

The server address

Whatever client you use, the endpoint is the same (Streamable HTTP transport):

There are two ways to connect: OAuth or an API token.

Connect with OAuth (claude.ai, ChatGPT)

Clients with remote MCP connector support need nothing but the URL above. Add it as a custom connector, and the client will send you to Checkvist to log in and approve access.

On the approval screen you choose what the assistant is allowed to do:

• Read and modify - the assistant can create, change, and delete lists and list items on your behalf.
• Read-only - the assistant can read and search your lists, but any attempt to change something is rejected.

Apps connected this way are listed on your Profile → Tools page, where you can disconnect them at any time.

Connect with an API token (Claude Code, Cursor)

Clients without built-in OAuth support authenticate with your Open API key from the profile page.

A token connection always has full read-and-modify access - the read-only choice is available for OAuth connections only.

What the assistant can do

Once connected, the assistant sees your lists as an outliner: every list is a tree of items, and each item can carry notes, tags, a due date, a priority, and assignees. You can ask it to

• Summarize a list, or find everything tagged a certain way,
• Add a batch of items at once, with indentation creating the hierarchy,
• Set or shift due dates ("tomorrow", "next friday" and other smart syntax works),
• Complete or reopen items, move them, add notes,
• Export a list in the markdown format

The assistant sends your data to AI provider only when it needs it to answer your requests. Checkvist does not send all the contents of your account, it tries to send as little as reasonably possible. The sent information is governed by that provider's terms; see the Checkvist privacy policy.

How to disconnect

OAuth connections: open Profile → Tools, find the app under MCP section, and press Disconnect. The app loses access immediately; it can ask for access again, and you'd have to approve it again.

Token connections: these use your Open API key, so they are not listed separately. To cut them off, regenerate the key on the profile page. This also stops every other integration using that key.

Troubleshooting

The assistant says it can't modify anything

You most probably approved the connection as read-only. Disconnect the app on the Profile → Tools page and connect it again, choosing read-and-modify on the approval screen.

The assistant reports that a PRO account is required

MCP access needs an active PRO account or trial. Check your profile page.

The client keeps asking to log in

Access tokens are short-lived and renewed by the client automatically, but if you have used "log out all sessions" or changed your password, every connector is cut off by design and has to be approved anew.
